Latin to Tifinagh converter

Type Amazigh in Latin letters, get it in Tifinagh. Script conversion only.

This tool does not translate. It changes letters into Tifinagh letters and nothing more. Check the result with a native speaker before you print it, publish it or tattoo it.

Examples:

How it works

Each Latin letter is replaced by the Tifinagh-IRCAM letter with the same value. See the alphabet for the full list, or type directly with the Tifinagh keyboard. Doubled letters stay doubled, spaces and punctuation are kept.

Questions

Does this translate my text into Amazigh?

No. It converts the script only: letters written in the Latin alphabet become the matching Tifinagh letters. It does not translate. If you type English or French, you will get English or French words spelled in Tifinagh, which is not Amazigh.

Which Latin spelling does it expect?

The IRCAM transcription of Standard Amazigh, for example azul, tanmmirt, ɣ for the throat sound and ɛ for the pharyngeal sound. You can also type gh for ɣ, sh for c, kh for x, 3 for ɛ and 7 for ḥ.

Why do I need to check the result?

Converting letter by letter cannot know spelling rules, word boundaries or how a word is pronounced. Always have important texts, names and tattoos checked by a native speaker before you use them.

What about p, v and o?

Standard Amazigh does not have separate letters for them. The converter turns o into u, as in the IRCAM alphabet, and leaves p and v unchanged so you can see them.
